There is so much to love about modern technology. It’s convenient, enjoyable, and offers previously unattainable connections to its users. However, as with all things, there is a yin to all the yang. Unmoderated technology can lead to social skill, health, relationship issues and more. My portfolio explores the interaction of technology and humanity in the present and future.
Many of my pieces begin with a gesture or a facial expression. I have a very strong kinesthetic sense so throughout the day, I will make a gesture that fills me with elation due to its evocative stance. Later, I will attempt to recreate that pose in a mirror to study it and use it as the basis of my next piece. I build out from the gesture’s personality, developing a story around it and placing the figure in a world that would allow that personality to thrive. I test different compositions and choose the composition that can convey my message most accurately. The color purple, representing mystique, holds a prominent position. I find the inquiry of practical developments and the individual quite intriguing. I use a mostly analogous color scheme to hone in on the idea of innovation.
I have three subgroups of art in my portfolio: the future, social impact, and a story told in a video game. The first subgroup presents my visions and worries about how technology will be used in the future. From crime to dating, everything is on the board. Even now, it’s difficult to manage what technology is being set forth into the world, and I believe that developments will only become more powerful or more niche as time goes on. I’m excited to contribute to that journey. The second subgroup examines the collision between the present state of technology and people. I single out individuals to emphasize that statistics are composed of individuals; real people are affected by technology and I aim to bring attention to that fact. The third subgroup displays the intricate storyline that I created for a video game I have designed in my mind. My current favorite video game has a terrible backstory behind characters and locations, but the actual game itself only shows well written hints throughout the story. I love that model, and wanted to implement it on my own: it’s a super cool battle royale!!!! but what are the results of providing the player with such a fun game?
